'★ WANNA MORE VIDS? https://goo.gl/OSRzNL In theory, competing is a wonderful thing. But in practice, it often chews people up and spits them out. I\'m certainly not trying to be polarizing or overly dramatic here. Doing a local show or meet isn\'t a big deal, and I know many healthy competitors in bikini and powerlifting with awesome personalities. But I no longer encourage my followers to compete. It took me many years of working with competitors to arrive at this stance. In general, I don\'t believe that it provides a greater overall net good to their lives, although it depends on the client. Don\'t get me wrong, testing your maximum strength on the platform or seeing how shredded and aesthetically pleasing you can arrive on stage can be exhilarating. To work so hard at something for months on end and wind up achieving a goal, winning a trophy, or setting a record can be highly rewarding. But I\'ve watched way too many seemingly normal clients become less happy after they began competing. You have to be embroiled in the industries in order to fully understand the effects. I\'ve seen numerous competitors far surpass their initial strength or physique goals, only to become miserable in the process. People can look unbelievable on stage or achieve an all-time best on a particular lift and still feel terrible because of their placing. Competing can be like a drug and become highly addicting. It can ruin marriages and friendships, turn people into insatiable, judgmental snobs, and lead people down dangerous paths. It\'s okay to just train hard and eat well all year round, but never going too extreme. To gradually increase your strength and improve your body composition for your own personal challenge and compete with yourself but not with others. Don\'t worry, I haven\'t gone soft. I just don\'t see enough fitness professionals discuss the potential downsides of competing, and I can\'t stress how sad it is to lose someone to the dark side and know that you encouraged them to do it.
