'In order to get attention in the highly competitive fitness industry, influencers are making bold claims that fly in the face of long held beliefs. One of these claims being made by a number of female fitness influencers is that they can eat upwards of 3000 calories per day and still look lean and fit. Some even claim that they can look fit while eating sugary and fatty foods like pizza, candy and ice cream. But is this true? It\'s an appealing proposition to anyone: \"You too can look lean and fit like your favorite fitness influencer while eating your favorite foods AND not restricting your calories whatsoever.\" It\'s certainly more appealing than the long held wisdom that you need to avoid processed foods, consume small portion sizes, keep calories under control and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. In this episode, I show you the science of metabolism using different established formulas to bring a realistic view to this question. I believe this is a worthwhile discussion as many younger women aspire to look like many of these fitness influencers and will take to heart the nutritional advice that is given on their social media channels. I also explore the motives behind the claims and why marketing is a big part of that. Finally, I share my thoughts on what women (and men) can do to ensure they are getting the best possible advice when it comes to reaching their fitness goals.'
