'What is a F-01 Certificate of Fitness and when do you need it?'

'Did you know that in anyplace with occupancy where a required fire protection system is out of service, a fire watch must be maintained by one or more persons holding an F-01 Certificate of Fitness? For the initial four (4) hours of a planned or an unplanned out of service condition when the affected area does not exceed 50,000 square feet, the impairment coordinator or a trained and knowledgeable person who is capable of performing fire watch duties can be designated by the building owner and may perform fire watch duties. However, after four hours of an out of service condition, those duties shall only be conducted by fire guards who hold an F-01 Certificate of Fitness.
